About The Position

The Software Engineer 3 role involves architecting, designing, coding, testing, documenting, implementing, and maintaining complex application programs and interfaces. This position may involve acting as a senior contributor or technical lead on small to mid-sized projects, and providing leadership for highly complex projects related to new systems, architecture, applications, or technology capabilities to support business goals. The role includes performing project planning, system analysis, software design, coding, testing, documentation, implementation, and research activities. Responsibilities also encompass providing technical support, problem determination and investigation, and implementing upgrades for developed applications. The engineer will enhance existing systems, participate in client walkthroughs and technical design reviews, and assist in systems development planning and monitoring. Additionally, the role requires participation in design reviews and peer code walkthroughs, providing client and application support, and ensuring software development adheres to performance optimization, interoperability standards, secure development lifecycle practices, and policies. The engineer will also perform or assist in research for application program development or modification, work with vendors to review their products' quality, adaptability, and compatibility, and serve as a subject matter expert, consulting with clients on IT strategy and business requirements. Collaboration with IT teams to identify technology deficiencies and improvement opportunities, staying current with industry standards for software development, and consulting with users on functional/technical specifications and feasibility of requests are also key aspects of the role. Finally, the Software Engineer 3 will guide junior software engineers and provide technical input for project planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree, or equivalent, in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in the job offered.
  • 5 years of experience with: Banner Application; ProC and C; AIX/UNIX; Oracle Forms; Oracle Advanced PLSQL; Oracle Performance Tuning; Oracle Reports; Shell Scripting; Production Support; SDLC; Utility Billing/Summary Merge; SAP Crystal Report; and Sleep Wake Processes.
  • 3 years of experience with: PVCS; Meter Inventory; Payment Applications; and XML.
  • 1 year of experience with Banner Data Purge.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, code, test, document, implement and maintain more complex application programs and interfaces.

  • Perform project planning, system analysis, software design and coding, testing, documentation, implementation and research activities as necessary for software engineering projects.
  • Provide technical support; problem determination and investigation; implementation of upgrades for developed applications.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and consult with clients on company's IT strategy and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT teams from applications and infrastructure to identify technology deficiencies and improvement opportunities in practices and procedures.
  • Stay current with industry standards techniques for software development, and apply them to development, testing, integration, and reporting processes where appropriate.
  • Consult with application users in developing functional/technical specifications.
  • Consult with application users, evaluate user requests for new or modified computer applications and associated interfaces to determine feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current systems and computer capabilities.
  • Guide software engineer I/II in the completion of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
