U.S. Bank is seeking a Software Engineer who will contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives in our digital transformation journey. This position will be responsible for the analysis, design, testing, development and maintenance of best in class software experiences. The candidate is a self-motivated individual who can collaborate with a team and across the organization. The candidate takes responsibility of the software artifacts produced adhering to U.S. Bank standards in order to ensure minimal impact to the customer experience. The candidate will be adept with the agile software development lifecycle and DevOps principles. As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing our digital and AI-enabled transformation by designing and delivering modern, scalable, and intelligent software solutions. You will contribute to building next-generation platforms that leverage automation, advanced analytics, and AI-driven insights to enhance customer experiences and drive business value. Leverage AI/ML-enabled capabilities, automation, and advanced analytics where applicable to improve product functionality and efficiency. Ensure all solutions meet security, compliance, and responsible AI standards Embed software reliability engineering (SRE) and observability practices into development workflows Contribute to the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-powered development tools and intelligent automation frameworks You won’t just build software—you’ll help enable intelligent, adaptive banking experiences powered by modern engineering practices and emerging AI capabilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Three to five years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience working within Agile Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) environments, with hands-on knowledge of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, release automation, code deployment strategies, and environment management.
  • Thorough understanding of a feature, including the users impacted, business processes affected, end-to-end workflows, and the feature's purpose within the larger product ecosystem.
  • Deep understanding of the team's domain and how deliverables align with business objectives, technical strategy, and organizational goals, particularly within Mortgage Lending, Loan Origination, Loan Servicing, Underwriting, and Mortgage Technology platforms.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across all aspects of product development, including engineering, architecture, QA, DevOps, product management, and business stakeholders.
  • Technically proficient and able to define, document, and deliver scalable solutions that meet end-user and business requirements.
  • Experience partnering with DevOps teams to support application deployment, infrastructure automation, production support, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey processes, requirements, risks, and results to engineers, product owners, scrum masters, DevOps engineers, third-party vendors, business stakeholders, and customers.
  • Proficient understanding of algorithms, data structures, architectural design patterns, software engineering best practices, and cloud-native application development principles.
  • Experience working with DevOps tools and practices such as Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, monitoring/logging tools, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Mortgage domain experience required, including knowledge of mortgage origination, underwriting, servicing, compliance requirements, regulatory standards, and integration of mortgage business processes with technology solutions.
  • Ability to support and enhance applications within a highly regulated financial services environment while ensuring security, compliance, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing, developing, testing, operating and maintaining products
  • Takes full stack ownership by consistently writing production-ready and testable code
  • Consistently creates optimal design adhering to architectural best practices; considers scalability, reliability and performance of systems/contexts affected when defining technical designs
  • Performs analysis on failures, propose design changes, and encourage operational improvements
  • Makes sound design/coding decisions keeping customer experience in the forefront
  • Takes feedback from code review and apply changes to meet standards
  • Conducts code reviews to provide guidance on engineering best practices and compliance with development procedures
  • Accountable for ensuring all aspects of product development follow compliance and security best practices
  • Exhibits relentless focus in software reliability engineering standards embedded into development standards
  • Embraces emerging technology opportunities and contributes to the best practices in support of the bank’s technology transformation
  • Contributes to a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Reviews tasks critically and ensures they are appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery; anticipates and communicates blockers and delays before they require escalation
