About The Position

eBay, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 2 in San Jose, CA. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying eBay Customer 360 user interfaces using React.js, ensuring responsive and accessible design. The engineer will also develop RESTful endpoints using Java Spring Boot, build and maintain data pipelines using Kafka, implement unit tests, and set up monitoring solutions. Participation in support and on-call rotations, code reviews, and troubleshooting is expected. Collaboration with UI/UX designers and development of data processing applications using Apache Flink are also key aspects of the role. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management or a closely related field. Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Design and build intuitive, high-quality user interfaces using the ReactJS framework.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs using Spring Boot for seamless front-end integration.
  • Implement robust monitoring and alerting systems using tools such as Prometheus to ensure platform reliability.
  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented language such as Java or C++.
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases including Key-Value Pair Database and Document database.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure and Services including developing big-data processing applications to handle loads of data.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and deploy eBay Customer 360 user interfaces using React.js, ensuring responsive and accessible design across various devices and platforms.
  • Develop robust and secure RESTful endpoints using Java Spring Boot to enable communication between Customer 360 user interface and metadata service and database.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines using Kafka to enable real-time customer profile and business event data streaming and processing.
  • Implement unit tests for software components to ensure high-quality deliverables and monitoring solutions for backend services using tools compatible with Spring Boot, such as Prometheus or Grafana, to ensure availability and performance.
  • Set up alerts and dashboards to monitor service health metrics, including response times, error rates, and throughput.
  • Participate in the support and on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 availability and reliability of backend services.
  • Participate in code reviews to learn and apply best practices in software development and improve code quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified through monitoring and logs, and collaborate with team members to escalate unresolved issues efficiently and ensure seamless handovers during shift changes.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and provide updates on task progress.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to translate design wireframes into functional React components.
  • Work with Apache Flink to develop data processing applications that ensure low-latency and fault-tolerant data handling.
