About The Position

The Public Utilities Commissions of Ohio (PUCO) affects nearly every household in Ohio. The PUCO regulates providers of all types of utility services which includes electric and natural gas companies, local and long-distance telephone, water and wastewater, and rail and trucking companies. More recently, the PUCO gained responsibility for facilitating competitive utility choices for Ohio consumers. To carry out our responsibilities, the PUCO employs a professional staff that includes engineers, economists, attorneys, and safety inspectors. Continually monitoring the activities of utility and transportation companies, the PUCO works to ensure safe and reliable services for all Ohioans. Software Development Specialist 3 (Salesforce) Information Technology Department Hourly Rate: $41.81 commensurate with experience About The Information Technology Department: The Information Technology (IT) Division works collaboratively with all PUCO departments to identify, procure and support information technology solutions necessary to perform the mission critical business functions of the PUCO. IT subject matter experts: maintain more than 50 business applications: plan, design, build and deploy new IT solutions; provide support for phones, tablets, laptops, desktops and printers; maintain production systems; and manage PUCO’s websites and webcasting activities. In addition, the IT division coordinates infrastructure support and IT security services with the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) and the Office of Information Technology (OIT).

Requirements

• 60 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: assuring requirements are defined and approved, performing code reviews and ensuring application development standards are met including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
• Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; 42 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: assuring requirements are defined and approved, performing code reviews and ensuring application development standards are met including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
• Or completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: assuring requirements are defined and approved, performing code reviews and ensuring application development standards are met including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
• Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design efforts, ensuring all Salesforce solutions follow secure, scalable, and maintainable patterns
• Guide developers through code reviews, mentorship, and enforcement of engineering best practices
• Collaborate closely with administrators, analysts, and technical teams to deliver cohesive, integrated enterprise solutions
• Oversee full lifecycle development activities, including technical design, unit testing, integration, UAT support, and deployment
• Develop high-quality applications using Apex, Visualforce, Lightning Web Components, and integration technologies
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, ensuring system stability, performance, and adherence to organizational standards
• Stay current with Salesforce releases, platform advancements, and industry best practices to recommend strategic improvements
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support system understanding, maintenance, and team knowledge sharing
• Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications and align designs with long-term architectural direction
• Collaborate with administrators, analysts, and developers to ensure seamless integration with other systems
• Promote and deploy code across multiple environments using established DevOps practices
