Software Development Manager, OMHS SCS
About The Position
Amazon is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a team of talented engineers in transforming the integration of robotics within its global fulfillment network. This role is part of a newly established team focused on creating edge compute solutions for industrial automation applications, operating in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment within Amazon. The manager will be a hands-on owner, setting an example for the team, and will be involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, from scoping and design to implementation, testing, and delivery. This is a unique opportunity to define edge-based solutions that bridge the cloud with the physical world in fulfillment centers, working across the software stack from edge to cloud and managing fleets of devices.
Requirements
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Nice To Haves
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience working with AWS Services
- Experience in robotics design, automation systems development, control systems design, or related product development
Responsibilities
- Mentor a team of software and system development engineers
- Foster a high-performing team environment, providing guidance and assistance to your engineers to help them achieve their full potential
- Work closely with product management and stakeholders to define the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with overall business goals
- Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from requirement gathering and design to development, testing, and deployment
- Drive the adoption of best practices and emerging technologies within your team, promoting continuous improvement and innovation
- Work effectively with product managers, designers, QA testers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of features
- Clearly communicate technical choices and progress to both technical and non-technical audiences
