Software Development Intern

EmersonRound Rock, TX

About The Position

You will join one of our software development teams that build DeltaV, our flagship distributed process control system used by leading chemical, life sciences, and energy companies around the world. Working alongside experienced engineers and mentors, you will take on a summer project drawn from our real backlog. Potential project opportunities include building new application features and user interfaces, developing services and APIs, improving performance and reliability in existing code, or contributing to internal tools that make our products better. Depending on the project, your work may also involve exploring AI/ML capabilities, such as applying machine learning models or AI-assisted features to real product and engineering problems. No prior industrial automation experience is required. If you enjoy writing code and want to see your work land in a product that customers depend on every day, we will teach you the rest. Many of our engineers joined us straight out of school from a general software development background, and this internship is designed to be a great first exposure to professional software development at scale.

  • Experience with Python, including data or machine learning libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
  • Coursework or personal projects involving AI/ML, data analysis, or working with large language model APIs.
  • Interest in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) or containers (Docker, Kubernetes). Coursework or personal projects count.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.
  • Previous internship, class project, hackathon, or personal project experience in software development.
