About The Position

Advanced Technology & Research Corporation (ATR) is seeking a full-time permanent Software Development Engineer to join its Engineering Services Division. This role is based at the Naval Surface Warfare Center South Florida Ocean Measurement Facility (SFOMF) near Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The successful applicant will be part of a research, design, test, and evaluation team focused on developing hardware systems for acquiring surface and sub-surface ocean sensor data, which will then be fused into a coherent picture for monitoring the underwater ocean environment. The engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining software systems, emphasizing high-level architecture, scalability, and performance. They will collaborate with hardware engineers and field experts to develop complex systems for data acquisition and sensor measurement.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience with software development of data measurement systems
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++, and LabVIEW
  • Working knowledge of scientific programming and algorithm development
  • Familiar with noise reduction and signal extraction algorithms
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary group environment
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate
  • US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation

Nice To Haves

  • Job experience with the Navy or other DoD laboratories
  • Experience with oceanographic and/or underwater signatures data
  • Current successful background investigation completion

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain software systems using engineering principles, focusing on high-level architecture, scalability, and performance
  • Work alongside hardware engineers and experts to help develop complex systems for data acquisition and sensor measurement systems
  • Produce technical reports, standard operating procedures, and presentations
  • Participate and contribute to the team in developing project plans, test and analysis plans
  • Write and brief research progress and results to upper management and sponsors
