Leidos is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join a dynamic team working on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) En-Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) system. ERAM is the core of the Next Generation Air Traffic Control System and serves as the foundational platform for all Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems. Developers on the ERAM team support new system capabilities and enhancements requested by the FAA, as well as system upgrades based on Tech Refresh initiatives. ERAM also facilitates increased air traffic flow as the need for additional capabilities evolves. This role focuses on the ERAM middleware layer, referred to as “FlightDeck” (FDK), which includes functions such as Real-Time Programming on High Availability Systems, Multi-threaded programming, Low Level Operating Systems (Linux) customization, SW/HW Integration, automation scripting, low-level communication software (TCP-IP, UDP, SCTP), support of Common Services, and System Maintenance Concepts. The primary responsibilities involve modernizing the ATC system by improving the availability and performance of ERAM, supporting its migration and upgrades (hardware, software, OS, firmware, security, CAS), and optimizing the experience for the flying public, ATC, and the airline industry. This includes developing and maintaining FAA air traffic control software (primarily Ada95/C++) on a UNIX/Linux platform, with support/maintenance functions utilizing PERL/PYTHON. The role also involves performing software development as needed for the ERAM system, coordinating solutions with Systems Engineering, and developing new capabilities and upgrades to common services via the FlightDeck API. Leveraging AI/ML concepts to improve SW processes and capabilities is also part of the role.
