$73,300 - $169,500Hybrid

About The Position

Join the Zoom Contact Center engineering team at a genuinely exciting moment: we are building an AI-powered analytics engine that acts as a virtual data analyst for our customers, moving beyond traditional reporting to create intelligent agents capable of understanding natural language and reasoning through complex data problems. As an entry-level backend engineer, you will work alongside experienced engineers to implement backend services that power AI reasoning, planning, and analytical tasks — gaining foundational skills at the intersection of scalable systems and modern AI development. The work you build here will directly shape how contact center teams around the world access insight and make decisions. This is a hybrid position that requires on-site presence 2 days per week at our San Jose, CA office. Remote arrangements are not available for this role.

  • Familiarity with backend programming in Java, Python, or a similar object-oriented language.
  • Basic understanding of relational (SQL) or non-relational (NoSQL) database design.
  • Curiosity and foundational knowledge of AI concepts, Large Language Models (LLMs), or AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Semantic Kernel) gained through projects or coursework.
  • Eagerness to learn distributed systems, real-time streaming protocols (WebSockets), and LLMOps practices in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implement backend services using Java and Spring Boot to support AI-powered applications within the Zoom Contact Center platform.
  • Build prompt strategies, context management logic, and basic agent workflows in collaboration with senior engineers.
  • Develop task execution logic, data handling pipelines, and error management for AI-driven data flows.
  • Instrument services with logging and monitoring tools to track performance, latency, and correctness across testing and production environments.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and senior engineers to translate analytical requirements into working, production-ready code.
  • Contribute to production-grade AI evaluation and orchestration pipelines (LLMOps), working with vector databases (Pinecone, Milvus), semantic search, AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen), and large-scale OLAP databases (ClickHouse).
