Software Development Engineer-PHP
About The Position
AppDirect is seeking a skilled and ambitious Senior Software Developer to join their team in Montreal. This role involves shaping and evolving the integration ecosystem for their platform, architecting and building high-volume transaction processing systems, and designing scalable, fault-tolerant systems. The developer will also participate in the migration to a micro-service oriented architecture. The ideal candidate is a highly technical, hands-on PHP developer passionate about producing maintainable and robust code, driving value through innovative solutions, and working collaboratively.
Requirements
- Written/Spoken French and English
- Strong product mindset
- Experience developing solutions in various programming languages
- Strong working knowledge of PHP, Javascript, MySQL
- Knowledge of web service technologies and building REST and GraphQL APIs
- Enjoy building production grade code then supporting and maintaining once it goes live
- Solid, production-grade fundamentals in infra, backend, data, frontend, and delivery, with the judgment to make trade-offs, unblock others, and raise the bar on how the team ships
- Proven track record of delivering end to end business solutions
- 5 years of relevant experience
Responsibilities
- Help shape and evolve the ecosystem for integration into our platform as we scale with more use cases and areas of extensibility
- Architect and build systems that can process a high volume of transactions
- Design, implement, and support scalable fault tolerant systems to minimise customer impact in case of failures
- Participate in the effort to move to a micro-service oriented architecture
- Own features end-to-end across the stack and know when to go deep yourself versus partnering with specialists
- Utilize AI-assisted development, including coding agents for bounded tasks with review (L2), and routine delegation of feature-sized work (L3), owning design intent, test strategy, and merge quality
- Support and maintain production grade code once it goes live
