Software Development Engineer II , Amazon Autos

AmazonArlington, VA
$143,700 - $194,400Onsite

About The Position

We are building something transformational — a greenfield, enterprise-grade data and insights platform that will redefine how automobile dealers, OEMs, and third-party partners engage with Amazon Autos. You'll be a key contributor to the data platform that drives smarter decision-making for thousands of dealers and partners spanning multiple marketplaces. Our seller and partner ecosystem — spanning dealer groups, OEMs, and 3P integrations — depends on real-time, actionable intelligence to optimize inventory, pricing, engagement, and sales performance. You will own and deliver major components of the platform that provides this intelligence at scale. We are looking for a software engineer who writes high-quality code, independently designs and builds complex components, and contributes to the technical direction of the team. You will work at the intersection of data engineering, AI/ML, and product — owning the design and delivery of key features from concept to production. What You Will Build: Data platform components that serve ML models and surface predictive insights to dealers and partners Features within intelligent agent systems that enable non-technical stakeholders to query and act on complex datasets Scalable data pipelines that process massive volumes of transactional, behavioral, and market data API integrations that transform raw signals into insights directly influencing revenue streams What Makes This Role Unique: This is a rare greenfield opportunity to be part of building a platform that will serve as the data backbone for Amazon Autos seller and partner ecosystem. You will work with AI-powered tools and contribute to the next generation of AI-enabled data platforms, within a team that has already driven AI adoption to over 90% among its software builders.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience, or Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or equivalent
  • 3+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience with big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive etc.
  • Experience building services using AWS products
  • Experience demonstrating software engineering skills in a previous intership, work experience, coding competitions, or publications, or experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own major components of the data platform — including data ingestion modules, transformation pipelines, API endpoints, and front-end consumption layers.
  • Autonomously produce high-quality, testable, and maintainable code. Participate in code reviews, contribute to coding standards, and champion engineering best practices within the team.
  • Implement and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS-native and big data technologies, ensuring data freshness, accuracy, and lineage.
  • Contribute to system design discussions, identify trade-offs, and propose solutions for complex technical problems within the team's domain.
  • Partner with engineering, product, data science, and partner teams to deliver on shared goals and integrate your components into the broader platform architecture.
  • Build and maintain APIs for external partner integrations — enabling OEMs, dealer groups, and 3P systems to consume standardized, real-time data feeds.
  • Own the operational health of your components — build monitoring, alerting, and participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
  • Support the growth of teammates through code reviews, design feedback, and onboarding new team members.
  • Work within an agile team to deliver software features and improvements end-to-end — from requirements clarification through deployment.
