About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continuous access to the innovation they rely on. This role is within the AWS CloudFront team, focusing on critical Infrastructure and Customer Observability initiatives. The team works on systems with global scale, building reliable, scalable, and low-cost systems that serve a growing customer base and drive innovation in the CDN market. The position involves delivering a highly secure platform for various use cases beyond just video delivery. The CloudFront Infrastructure Service Team's mission is to support builders by ensuring high availability of CloudFront's connectivity to customer origins. They build and maintain global infrastructure using secure, high throughput, and cost-effective hardware platforms, with a responsibility to continuously improve these systems. The team is composed of technologists from diverse backgrounds who are customer-obsessed, enjoy building and improving innovative technologies, and are comfortable with both prototyping and ensuring solutions are production-ready.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable systems from the ground up or enhance existing CloudFront infrastructure, owning the complete technical lifecycle from architecture decisions through implementation and deployment.
  • Drive technical strategy for initiatives that impact millions of customers globally, making key architectural decisions that shape the future of CloudFront.
  • Guide team members through complex technical challenges, promoting elegant solutions over complicated ones through hands-on coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Conduct design reviews and share best practices to elevate the team's technical capabilities and maintain high engineering standards.
  • Identify and implement improvements to CloudFront's security posture and availability, proposing and driving adoption of new technologies and tools.
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen system resilience, reduce operational burden, and improve customer experience.
  • Write production code for critical features and infrastructure improvements, actively participating in the development process.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure high code quality standards across the team, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Balance coding responsibilities with architectural guidance, spending significant time in both design and implementation phases.
  • Directly influence the reliability and performance of one of AWS's largest edge services, serving trillions of requests daily.
