About The Position

As a RPG Developer, you will be responsible for application development, maintenance, and modernization of mission-critical iSeries-based systems. We are seeking an experienced Senior Developer with deep expertise in RPG development on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform. This role is supporting a large-scale enterprise client, where you will be responsible for application development, maintenance, and modernization of mission-critical iSeries-based systems. The ideal candidate combines strong RPG skills with the ability to analyze complex business requirements and drive continuous improvement. This position will be contract and remote. Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • 7+ years of hands-on RPG software development experience on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform
  • Working knowledge of IBM iSeries technologies including DB2 for iSeries, and the IFS (Integrated File System)
  • Solid understanding of relational database design and advanced SQL on DB2 for iSeries
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a managed services or outsourced delivery model with defined SLAs and change management processes
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with application performance monitoring and logging tools (Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar)
  • Background in logistics, supply chain
  • Experience using IBMi Navigator for database analysis
  • Experience with MKS Implementer

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy RPG applications running on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform, including RPG III, IV, ILE, SQL programming, created SQL tables and queries, CL programming, and batch processing components.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues across RPG and legacy applications within established SLA timelines.
  • Develop and maintain interfaces between iSeries applications utilizing DDM (Distributed Data Management), as well as external systems.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and client stakeholders to translate functional requirements into detailed technical specifications and solution designs.
  • Perform code reviews, enforce coding standards, and contribute to the team’s knowledge base and documentation library.
  • Support database design and optimization on DB2 for i, including SQL tuning, stored procedures, and data modeling.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives) and contribute to accurate effort estimation.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and technical debt reduction within the managed services scope.
