About The Position

Geotab is seeking a Software Developer to support other developers within Geotab by contributing to development, QA, and engineering-support inquiries. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining efficient, reusable, reliable code for high throughput, performance-critical, scalable applications. The Software Developer will collaborate with other software developers, engineers, and internal technical teams, contributing to the team's roadmap and identifying areas for improvement in existing code and architecture. The role requires working with high-level requirements, collaborating with stakeholders, and delivering a world-class product. The developer will participate in the development of scalable code, prototypes, minimum viable products, and PoCs, taking ownership of tasks and features, and writing, testing, and reviewing code. A key aspect of this role is the use of AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, documentation, and test generation. The developer will also contribute to team documentation, stay current with emerging AI tools and development practices, and participate in technical discussions and team ceremonies. Support for Geotab's global strategic initiatives by delivering reliable, high-quality contributions to team goals is expected. The role involves writing clean, secure, and maintainable software across languages and environments such as C#, JavaScript, and SQL, with a focus on continuous improvement. Participation in a 24x7 on-call rotating schedule may be required, supported by senior team members.

Nice To Haves

Pursuing a Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience with or curiosity about AI development tools, large language models, or AI-assisted coding platforms.
Exposure to web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React).
Basic understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
Knowledge of backend systems such as C# .NET Core / .NET 7+.
Understanding of version control principles (e.g., Git).
Interest in exploring cloud computing (e.g., GCP).
Familiarity of database design and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
Foundational knowledge of RESTful API design and development.

Writing, testing, and reviewing code to ensure quality and adherence to team best practices; participating in code reviews as both a reviewer and reviewee.
Using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate coding, debugging, and documentation.
Leveraging AI tooling to generate unit tests, identify edge cases, and improve code coverage — increasing development velocity without compromising quality.
Contributing to team documentation — system design notes, runbooks, and feature specs — using AI tools to draft and structure documentation efficiently.
Staying current with emerging AI tools, development practices, and technologies; sharing relevant learnings with the team.
Participating in technical discussions and team ceremonies; asking questions, contributing ideas, and growing your ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
Proactively exploring how AI and automation can improve team workflows, tooling, and developer experience — and bringing proposals to your team lead.
