About The Position

Securian Financial is seeking a software developer to join the Bills, Beneficiary and Beyond (BBB) team within Employee Benefit Solutions Technology (EBST). BBB is responsible for supporting essential systems within the Employee Benefit Solutions ecosystem. As part of the BBB team, you will create technical solutions to achieve business outcomes based on an understanding of customers, business processes, and technical requirements. You will carry out engineering tasks in a diverse technology environment, including designing, coding, configuring, testing, implementing, and supporting quality software solutions, systems architecture, application security, and application infrastructure. You will continuously improve and develop internal software and configure packaged applications by evaluating business needs to develop solutions that enhance business capabilities. This position will have a hybrid working arrangement, working in-office for a minimum of 3 days a week. Securian Financial believes in hybrid work as an integral part of our culture. Associates get the benefit of working both virtually and in our offices. If you’re in a commutable distance (90 minutes), you’ll join us 3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience developing software using Java and familiarity with javascript.
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub and modern development workflows
  • Willingness to learn and work within a complex domain involving customer and employee data with a strong focus on customer service for both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, ask questions, and incorporate feedback through code reviews and collaboration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates accountability, curiosity, problem solving and a desire to grow technical skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience utilizing and implementing DevOps capabilities such as CI/CD pipelines, Git, GitHub, Junit, and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL server.
  • Experience deploying applications with Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge & experience utilizing AWS capabilities such as EC2, Serverless, and Lambda.
  • Experience with both web applications and backend services.
  • Experience in integrating backend services with web applications.
  • Experience with Informatica PowerCenter would be useful.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with development teams and business partners in an agile environment to solve problems with a test and learn mindset.
  • Provide ongoing support for business applications and respond to production needs which includes serving in an on-call support rotation.
  • Perform analysis, design, development, testing, integration, and implementation activities of medium to high complexity.
  • Support technology modernization efforts including learning new technologies used in the new implementation.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of self-administered billing and premium processes, beneficiary management process and data, Illustrations process and data, along with their integration with other systems.
