About The Position

Avista is seeking a Software Developer to support and enhance its ETRM (Energy Trading and Risk Management) platform and related Energy Resources systems, helping sustain reliable operations today while preparing for future technology modernization.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge of architectural concepts, principles, standards, tools, techniques, and methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong relationship building skills to interact effectively with peers and business stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Development experience in one or more of these areas: accounting, banking, finance, commodity trading/scheduling
  • Proficiency in core programming languages (C#, Python), strong PL/SQL and SQL skills and experience with relevant .NET framework
  • Experience with internal/external integrations (GlobalScape, SFTP, API’s, etc.)
  • Experience with AI development tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Support, enhance, and maintain Avista’s Nucleus ETRM platform and related Energy Resources systems that support critical business operations
  • Partner with Energy Resources stakeholders to understand business processes, clarify requirements, and translate needs into reliable software solutions
  • Analyze, design, develop, test, implement, and maintain application enhancements, integrations, reports, and system improvements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, data, integration, and production support issues
  • Improve the quality, maintainability, performance, and reliability of existing code and system components
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, APIs, interfaces, and application logic that support Energy Resources processes
  • Contribute to technical design decisions and recommend practical approaches for developing, testing, implementing, and supporting solutions
  • Participate in code reviews, mentor other developers, and help strengthen shared team knowledge of Energy Resources systems
  • Support future modernization efforts by documenting current system behavior, identifying improvement opportunities, and helping evaluate long-term solution options
