About The Position

Ameritas is seeking a Software Developer Intern to support the Individual, AIC/AAS, and Retirement business efforts. The role offers exposure to AWS cloud development with Python and/or using AI to write code. This remote internship is available to candidates in Nebraska or Ohio and does not require regular in-office presence. It begins in May 2027 and is a long-term internship of 12 months or more, with full-time hours during the summer and part-time hours during the school year.

Requirements

Must be enrolled at least half-time, as defined by the institution, in a college degree program for the entire internship.
Must be studying computer science, information systems, or a related field.
Must be able to commit to an internship lasting 12 months or longer.
Must work full-time in the summer and part-time during the school year; full-time hours are 30–40 per week and part-time hours are 15–20 per week.
Understanding of coding and basic principles of application development.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Position is not open to individuals temporarily authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Design and develop solutions using custom packaged insurance software.
Design and develop custom applications using Java, SpringBoot, JavaScript, React/Redux, Python, or custom scripting languages.
Work with automation tools and a range of developers and technologies, including GitHub.
Work with IT resources to enhance existing applications or develop new applications.
Use JavaScript and other scripting languages.
Work with SQL and relational databases.
