About The Position

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is seeking a Software Developer Instructor to design and deliver engaging instruction that fosters learner success. The instructor will continually improve the quality of learning delivery, aligning with college outcomes and priorities, and utilizing evidence for decision-making. This role involves working in alignment with the college’s mission, vision, core values, and operating principles, and contributing to the college community through teamwork, committee involvement, and shared leadership. The instructor is expected to commit to ongoing professional growth in both instructional and technical areas, and to assist in the development of adjunct faculty. New faculty are required to complete the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Instructor Preparation Academy during their first three years of employment, which covers teaching strategies, guidance, curriculum development, assessment, and diversity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the related teaching field.
  • Two years of direct occupational experience required in an occupation related to Software Development.
  • At a minimum, occupational experience has to have occurred at least 1 year within the last 5 years.
  • 2 years of experience in one of the following areas: Senior Developer/Programmer, Personal Computer Developer/Programmer, Applications Developer/Programmer, Systems Developer/Programmer, Lead Developer/Programmer, Web Developer/Programmer, Web Programmer, Database Developer/Programmer, Software Developer/Programmer, Software Engineer.
  • Technical skills include familiarity with both Macintosh and PC Platforms, C#, Java, Python, Unity, R, The Unreal Engine, HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, ASP.NET, MySQL, SQL Server, SQL, database development, systems analysis and design, software development methodology, GitHub, Microsoft Azure Environment, Agile Methodology.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience with adult learners is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and continually revise curriculum, adapting it to college delivery standards, strategic directions, employer feedback, and industry/regulatory standards. This includes Open Educational Resources (OER), textbook changes, assessment plans, credit for prior learning assessment tools, and employability skills.
  • Utilize engaging instructional strategies and methodologies that foster student success both in and outside the classroom.
  • Create learning experiences that integrate multiple alternative or emerging delivery methodologies and instructional technologies (e.g., hybrid, face-to-face, video conferencing, self-paced, online) to maximize student success.
  • Provide immediate, routine, and consistent feedback to students to assist them in improving performance in technical and core ability competencies.
  • Create a learning environment that integrates best practices for student success, including authentic service learning, student club events, and engagement in profession-specific activities.
  • Develop, support, participate, and collaborate with other departments on student recruitment, program marketing, and referral of students for success strategies (tutoring, counseling, advising, etc.).
  • Use data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, and course success, and design improvement strategies based on evidence.
  • Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.
  • Engage with business and industry through participation in advisory committees, including recruitment of new members, planning meetings, participation in community groups, and business visits.
  • Participate in community and college-sponsored events to promote the college’s programs and enhance community relationships.
  • Engage in division, department, and team meetings and requirements, including the development and completion of the college’s strategic planning through team action plans and budget requests.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge and skill in emerging trends and current occupational practices by networking with regional industry leaders and participating in continuing education and professional development.
  • Assist in the development of adjunct faculty through communication, sharing of resources, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements, faculty progression structure requirements, and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
