About The Position

Work with the IT development team, product owners, and other staff to implement digital applications or core company systems. This involves developing, implementing, and maintaining software components and user interfaces, using services and data to communicate with other platforms, and participating in agile teams to deliver consistent work. The role includes developing, testing, installing, and maintaining insurance systems, integrating these systems, digitally enabling existing systems, working with web services (internal and external), performing data mapping and transformation between different systems, and managing expert systems and business rules. Additionally, the position requires sharing technical knowledge with the IT team, assisting in the analysis and design of business system automation projects, and carrying out responsibilities in the maintenance, security, and support of IT projects. Continuous improvement of the existing codebase and applications, as well as monitoring and supporting systems on and off-hours (including nightly batches and portals), are also key functions. The role also involves supporting the IT team with other assigned duties and maintaining knowledge of industry and technology practices through continuing education and networking.

Requirements

  • College degree or comparable experience in web development languages, computer science, computer technology, or other internet-related computer technology
  • Effective interpersonal and user/peer team relationship and communication skills
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision or guidance on most tasks
  • Solid foundation of technologies and solution delivery
  • Fundamental understanding of architecture design and patterns
  • Ability to work through problems and recommend techniques to solve them
  • Proficiency in one or more coding languages
  • Highly competent in a specific area of software development
  • Familiarity with code automated unit testing
  • Experience in or ability to learn Property and Casualty insurance principles, agency-company interface, and insurance web site development
  • Ability to work independently on mid to complex tasks
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to travel to all organization offices (including in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and South Dakota) and travel to vendor work sites
  • Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise level
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position and operate a computer a majority of the time
  • Ability to move throughout the office to access work materials and to move work materials weighing up to ten pounds daily
