About The Position

Barrios Technology is seeking an early-career Software Developer I focused on Applications and Data to develop internal supporting infrastructure and solutions, along with software for existing NASA and customer contracts. The role is suited to a developer with a strong computer science foundation who enjoys working across the software stack. The developer will design, build, test, and maintain applications, tools, and services using technologies selected to meet project needs, working alongside IT operations personnel and other developers. The position may also involve developing software for current contracts that delivers additional value to clients. The ideal candidate has hands-on project experience building full-stack applications, working with relational databases, and developing in Linux environments, and is eager to learn new tools and frameworks as mission needs evolve. The work is generally in an office environment, but may involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Some commuting and travel to other installations may be required. Regular attendance and schedule flexibility during peak periods and surges are required. A post-offer, pre-employment drug test is a condition of employment.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or anticipated degree completion by December 2026.
Zero to five years of experience.
Proficiency in more than one programming language, such as C++, Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or PHP.
Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming principles.
Knowledge of database design and SQL, with hands-on experience using a relational database such as MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server.
Familiarity with Git for version control.
Understanding of the value of writing unit tests.
Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage and ensure completeness and accuracy of work.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Self-motivated, with the ability to drive initiatives from end to end.
Ability to work with a distributed team across remote locations and different time zones.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Team-oriented.
Must be a U.S. citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information if subject to a government security investigation.
Ability to work outside the normal schedule and adjust schedules for peak periods and surge requirements when required.
Ability to work in a team atmosphere and demonstrate professional behavior that promotes productivity, teamwork, and cooperation.
Appropriate grooming and dress that do not impose a safety risk or hazard.

Nice To Haves

Full-stack project experience building applications end to end, including front-end UI, backend logic, and database.
Experience with web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and at least one web or application framework.
Experience with Linux/UNIX environments and network programming, including TCP/IP, sockets, or HTTP.
Experience with Docker and deploying applications to cloud platforms such as AWS.
Experience with asynchronous or concurrent programming.
Exposure to data processing, machine learning, or natural language processing libraries.
Experience with .NET and other Microsoft scripting and programming environments.
Experience working in a Scrum/Agile environment.
Interest in or experience with the space industry.
Tutoring, mentoring, or instructional experience in computer science or mathematics.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications, tools, and services for internal operations and contract deliverables.
Write clean, readable, well-structured code in languages such as Python, PHP, C++, Java, C#, and JavaScript, as project needs dictate.
Develop backend logic and services and contribute to front-end interfaces, focusing on usability and UI/UX optimization.
Design and maintain relational database schemas and write efficient SQL queries.
Build utilities and automation scripts to streamline workflows, process data, and reduce manual effort.
Containerize and deploy applications using Docker and support cloud or on-premises hosting environments.
Apply data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design principles to create scalable, reliable, high-performing solutions.
Write unit tests and take responsibility for code quality, security, reliability, and performance.
Work with product owners, designers, IT operations, and engineers to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application, server, and network issues in Linux/UNIX and Windows environments.
Participate in code reviews and follow version control best practices using Git.
Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of development infrastructure and processes.
Document code, designs, and processes for long-term maintainability.
Perform all other assigned duties.
