About The Position

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking for a skilled Cloud Engineer to design, deploy, administer, and support enterprise-grade Red Hat OpenShift container platforms running mission-critical workloads across on-premises and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Kubernetes, containerization technologies, automation, infrastructure as code, and cloud platforms, with a passion for building secure, scalable, and highly available containerized environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience with container technologies, administration and support.
  • Experience Kubernetes architecture and workload management.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with automation tools.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Familiarity with container image security.
  • Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift security features such as RBAC, network policies, pod security, secrets management.
  • Experience with Helm and Kustomize.
  • Strong ability to lead, and collaborate.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and administer Red Hat OpenShift clusters across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Manage, monitor, and optimize Kubernetes workloads to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Install, configure, and maintain OpenShift Operators for application deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines by integrating containerized applications into automated deployment workflows.
  • Monitor cluster health, resource utilization, and application performance using appropriate monitoring and logging tools.
  • Troubleshoot platform, networking, storage, and application issues to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
  • Implement security, compliance, and governance best practices for OpenShift and Kubernetes environments.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and platform management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver reliable container platform solutions.
  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and platform standards.
