About The Position

The SPEAR team in Apple’s Security Engineering & Architecture organization is hiring a collaborative software quality assurance engineer with a drive to ensure the quality of ambitious software security features. SPEAR is a dedicated team of engineers who work on security hardening across all of Apple’s operating systems. We work in a variety of codebases in all layers of the software stack. We develop challenging and impactful security features that require rigorous test development and execution to land cleanly and successfully. Our work results in major improvements to the security of Apple’s apps and services without compromising the polished user experience over a billion users rely on every day. Our team is hiring a collaborative software engineer with a drive to ensure the quality of ambitious software features that impact Apple's foundational technologies and operating systems. We work across a variety of codebases and all layers of the software stack, developing challenging and impactful features that require rigorous test development and execution to land cleanly and successfully. Your work will be key to exceeding partner teams’ expectations for feature quality across Apple's leading platforms: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. As a Software Engineer in Test, you will work in a multi-functional team responsible for projects such as system applications, frameworks, and services. You will work closely with software engineers, project managers, and other Apple quality teams. You will ensure that Apple delivers the next generation of its operating systems and features with the highest security and quality.

Requirements

  • Experience writing code in Objective C, Swift, or Python to test an API, SDK, or Frameworks.
  • Experience writing and triaging automated software tests (e.g., unit-tests, regression tests, functional tests, stress tests).
  • Experience in developing comprehensive test plans, assessing risk, filing appropriate bugs, and consolidating bug reports.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively about technical topics (verbal and written).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in driving development and deployment of relevant testing tools and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with XCTest and Xcode.
  • Ability to triage problems, prioritize accordingly, and propose a resolution.
  • Ability to work independently, raise issues, and take corrective action.
  • A keen eye for detail and a passion for understanding how systems work and ensuring their quality and reliability.
