About The Position

We are seeking a Software Advisor with advanced PostgreSQL expertise to design and govern highly scalable, resilient, and high-performing data-driven systems. This role bridges complex business logic with deep database engine capabilities, with a focus on advanced database clustering, high availability (HA), query optimization, and multi-terabyte data scalability. P ostgreSQL database architecture, performance tuning, high availability and disaster recovery planning, cloud database administration (Azure PostgreSQL), database security, schema design and governance, automation, and supporting scalable enterprise applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical.
  • 6+ years of progressive software development experience & advanced PostgreSQL architecture.
  • 5+ of PostgreSQL internals, including MVCC, WAL, vacuuming strategies, replication, indexing, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing PostgreSQL in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS RDS, or Cloud SQL.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated deployments, observability, and operational best practices for reliable database and application delivery.
  • Strong understanding of microservice data ownership, event-driven architecture, API design, and distributed system patterns.
  • 1+ years of experience working at Fiserv as a contractor or employee.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience mentoring backend and database engineers, review architectural decisions, and provide guidance on critical design and implementation choices.
  • Experience partnering with product, DevOps, security, and engineering teams to balance delivery priorities with long-term architectural scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements into scalable logical and physical database models using advanced PostgreSQL capabilities, including JSONB, arrays, and composite types.
  • Diagnose database bottlenecks, interpret EXPLAIN ANALYZE output, and optimize complex queries, indexing strategies, and partitioning approaches.
  • Design resilient database architectures using connection pooling, read replicas, horizontal harding, and effective failover strategies.
  • Define and enforce data standards, schema versioning practices, migration protocols, and ORM integration patterns across teams.
  • Implement secure access, row-level security, encryption, and compliance-aligned controls for sensitive data.
