About The Position

The Software Architect designs, develops, and oversees the architecture of software applications and establishes technology standards, frameworks, and development practices that support project technical requirements. The Software Architect will report to the Program Manager for the Geospatial Data Management & Visualization team of the Regional Application Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, IT, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Java Spring, Docker, Postgres, SQL, Python, Web and similar technologies
  • Previous experience with architecture of enterprise applications, APIs, databases, web technologies, software testing, Git, ticketing systems, and cloud technologies.
  • Previous experience in Linux/Ubuntu scripts, R, docker containers, AWS cloud services

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting Louisiana coastal protection, coastal management, environmental, geographic information systems (GIS), or related projects.
  • Experience working with state and/or federal partners.
  • Experience developing data management, data visualization, or analytics applications in collaboration with state or federal partners.
  • Experience collaborating with project owners, project managers, and other stakeholders to develop software requirements, specifications, technical designs, and development tasks.
  • Experience conducting code reviews, coordinating technical tasks, managing development timelines, and providing technical mentorship or support to software development team members.
  • Experience with R and other data analysis or scientific computing technologies.
  • Experience with additional cloud platforms, modern web frameworks, container orchestration, or enterprise integration technologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications using Java, Spring, PostgreSQL, SQL, Python, and related technologies, following MVC and other appropriate software architecture and design patterns.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based software applications and APIs, web applications, and databases in .Net framework and other web technologies.
  • Define and document enterprise software and application architecture by developing architecture diagrams, technical designs, and technology roadmaps.
  • Evaluate customer specifications to determine the appropriate software architectures, technologies, frameworks, and development approaches.
  • Create visually appealing, user-friendly interfaces with intuitive navigation.
  • Manage software processes and configuration tracking throughout the lifecycle such as code reviews, tasks completion, and project timelines.
  • Manage code repositories (Git) and coordinate task assignments or technical requirements for the software applications, and provide technical direction and support to team members.
  • Implement Amazon Web Services cloud or other cloud-based CI/CD, testing, and application deployment and production configurations.
  • Learn and apply established development standards and best practices and maintain technical documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
