About The Position

Procore is seeking a Solution Architect/Senior Principal Software Engineer to join its Mobile Engineering organization. The role defines the technical foundation for mobile experiences across Procore product areas, including Field Solutions, Quality & Safety, Project Management, Financials, Schedule, and Assets, spanning iOS, Android, shared cross-platform logic, backend services, and cloud services. The architect will establish strategic technical direction for mobile, cloud, and backend architecture; create reference patterns for teams; and remain hands-on in delivering that strategy across core product areas. The position includes shaping cross-platform approaches such as Kotlin Multiplatform, a federated GraphQL backend-for-frontend layer, and mobile platform capabilities including offline synchronization, CI/CD, observability, and security. The role is expected to help reduce duplicated effort across platforms, strengthen mobile-to-backend architecture, and improve customer value. The position reports to the Senior Director of Mobile Engineering and is a hybrid role based in Procore's Austin, Texas office, with three days per week in the office. Procore is looking for someone to join immediately. The organization expects team members to be AI-literate and to use generative tools and agentic workflows; this role will also help set technical direction for AI-assisted mobile and backend engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field, or comparable work experience.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems, including mobile, cloud, and backend services.
  • 5+ years operating at Principal level or above with cross-team or organization-wide technical scope.
  • Deep, current expertise in native mobile development, including Swift/iOS and Kotlin or Java/Android, and modern backend and cloud technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Java, Go, Node.js, GraphQL, REST, and distributed systems design.
  • Hands-on experience with cross-platform mobile architecture, such as Kotlin Multiplatform or comparable shared-logic approaches, and GraphQL federation or backend-for-frontend patterns at scale.
  • Broad exposure to mobile platform capabilities such as offline-first synchronization, mobile CI/CD and release automation, observability and crash/performance telemetry, or mobile security; depth in every area is not required.
  • Track record of defining and delivering multi-year technical strategies that materially changed a mobile or platform organization, including platform consolidations, re-architectures, or cross-platform initiatives at scale.
  • Demonstrated willingness to write code and personally build proofs of concept and technical spikes to de-risk major decisions.
  • Demonstrated interest in or hands-on experience with AI-native engineering, including integrating AI tooling into the software development lifecycle or into mobile/backend products.
  • Strong judgment in navigating ambiguity, identifying high-impact problems, framing them for executives and engineers, and driving lasting decisions.
  • Strong communication and influence skills, including presenting technical strategy to engineering, product, and executive audiences and aligning mobile, backend, and platform stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for Procore's mobile platform across native iOS and Android, shared cross-platform logic, and the federated GraphQL backend-for-frontend layer.
  • Set architectural standards and patterns for building and sharing mobile features across platforms, reducing duplicated implementations.
  • Shape technical strategy for mobile platform capabilities such as offline-first synchronization and conflict resolution, CI/CD and release infrastructure, observability, and security.
  • Guide consequential mobile, cloud, and backend design decisions, including subgraph architecture, data ownership boundaries, and API contracts.
  • Mentor Principal and Staff engineers, develop senior technical leaders, and raise engineering standards through architecture reviews, design forums, and strategy sessions.
  • Partner with backend, platform, and infrastructure teams to ensure cloud services, APIs, and the mobile platform meet scale, performance, and security requirements.
  • Prototype high-risk architectural approaches, unblock critical initiatives, and write code and design documents that serve as organizational examples.
  • Personally write production-quality code and build proofs of concept to validate architectural directions such as Kotlin Multiplatform modules and GraphQL subgraphs.
  • Partner with engineering directors, VPs, and product and UX leadership to shape strategy, translate objectives into a durable technical roadmap, and hold the organization accountable to it.
  • Help set technical direction for AI-assisted mobile and backend engineering.
