About The Position

TactWare is seeking a Software Architect to support the Precision Fires program for the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Center (AvMC) at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. In this role, you will provide technical leadership for the design, development, integration, and modernization of software for mission-critical military systems. You will help establish software architecture and technical direction while working closely with software, systems, hardware, cyber, safety, and test teams. The Software Architect will be expected to understand both existing and emerging system requirements, guide significant software design decisions, and help engineering teams develop maintainable solutions that support long-term program objectives.

Requirements

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to security clearance requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • An additional six years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Significant experience with C/C++ and object-oriented software design and development.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or architecting complex software systems.
  • Experience providing technical leadership and guiding software design decisions.
  • Experience with embedded, real-time, or other complex software-intensive systems.
  • Experience developing and maintaining unit tests and automated software development workflows.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex software and system integration issues.
  • Experience working in Linux development environments.
  • Experience with Git or similar source control systems.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs to both engineering teams and program stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

  • Experience modernizing complex or legacy software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Define and guide software architecture for embedded and mission-critical military systems.
  • Lead software design activities and provide technical direction throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate system and software requirements and translate them into maintainable software architectures and designs.
  • Guide the development, integration, testing, and modernization of complex software systems.
  • Develop and review software using C/C++ and other object-oriented programming languages as needed.
  • Establish and promote sound software engineering practices, including unit testing, automated build and test workflows, and maintainable software design.
  • Analyze complex software and system integration issues and provide technical guidance toward resolution.
  • Lead or contribute to software and system design reviews and technical interchange meetings.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, cyber, safety, test, and other engineering disciplines to ensure software architecture supports overall system requirements.
  • Evaluate legacy systems and develop strategies for modernization, refactoring, and technical debt reduction.
  • Guide architectural and technical design decisions across software development teams.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on complex development efforts.
  • Communicate architectural decisions, tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations to engineering teams and program stakeholders.
