About The Position

This role provides software architecture direction and people leadership for service robotics software platforms. It is responsible for definition and governance of product-grade software ecosystems that enable development, validation, release, field deployment, fleet operations, updates, sustainment, and lifecycle management for globally deployed service cobots.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of software architecture, software systems engineering, robotics software stacks, integration patterns, requirements, validation, release processes, release management and product lifecycle management.
  • Experience robotics software stack e.g. C/C++, Python, ROS2, Kinematic Solvers, Motion Planning, Simulation methodologies, Edge AI, Computer Vision, Sensor Fusion methods.
  • In depth knowledge of robotics controls, embedded/edge computing, simulation, cybersecurity, fleet operations, diagnostics, service workflows, supplier management, and product development governance.
  • Prior experience in developing products that combine hardware and software (e.g. robotics, consumer electronics, drones, medical devices).
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies that utilize AI. Functional knowledge of AI model architectures across vision and transformer models.
  • Direct or indirect experience in leading teams. This includes setting priorities, resource allocation, talent development, and work allocation.
  • Influences senior stakeholders and teams without direct reporting authority, including central software groups, robotics/product teams, field/service organizations, suppliers, and governance functions.
  • Creates structure in ambiguous early-stage product environments while maintaining practical execution focus and alignment to program outcomes
  • Communicates software strategy, trade-offs, risks, and priorities clearly to engineering teams, senior management, suppliers, and cross-functional partners.
  • Builds alignment across global teams and maintains close engagement with Singapore for the dedicated software team.
  • Master's or higher in Robotics, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering. Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant software engineering, software architecture, product development, or robotics/automation platform experience, including experience leading teams, influencing cross-functional stakeholders, and delivering complex software systems through a product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Define the software architecture, technical roadmap, and interface strategy for Applied Materials service robotics platform, including embedded software, fleet connectivity, diagnostics, observability, simulation, and lifecycle tooling dependencies.
  • Establish architectural guardrails for scalable product development, release management, software updates, cybersecurity alignment, quality practices, documentation, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ensure project and program technical objectives are clearly defined, with outcomes, milestones, feasibility considerations, resourced, and technical risks understood before major execution phases.
  • Lead the dedicated software team, expected to remain lean in the early stage, while shaping the future operating model across the company, central software teams, and external partners.
  • Partner with central software organizations on standards, tooling, reusable infrastructure, security, compliance, release practices, and integration with existing Applied Materials software ecosystems.
  • Ensure all phases of software architecture, development, validation, deployment, and support are documented, and that information is transferred effectively across engineering, product, service, and governance stakeholders.
  • Spearhead adoption of new software technologies and methods where appropriate, ensuring created processes, designs, and architectures can be incorporated into Applied Materials products/services or disseminated to other teams.

Benefits

  • supportive work culture that encourages you to learn, develop, and grow your career
  • programs and support that encourage personal and professional growth
