About The Position

Niyam IT is seeking an experienced Software/Applications Developer to support a federal client. The role designs, develops, and maintains complex software systems supporting critical organizational functions; defines technical requirements; creates scalable solutions; and delivers major enhancements to existing platforms. The developer participates in all phases of a rapid software development life cycle, from planning and design through testing, deployment, and ongoing support. As a technical expert, the developer collaborates with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and deliver high-quality solutions on schedule. The position is hybrid, working 3–4 days per week at the client location in Ashburn, Virginia.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and ability to successfully obtain a federal background investigation (CBP BI).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to work hybrid at the client location in Ashburn, Virginia.
• At least seven years of experience in software development or a related IT discipline.
• Demonstrated experience with Java and JavaScript.
• Demonstrated experience with Python.
• Demonstrated experience with Angular and Node.js / Spring Boot.
• Demonstrated experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Demonstrated experience with REST/SOAP APIs, JSON, and microservices.
• Demonstrated experience with GitLab and runners, and Harness.
• Demonstrated experience with Docker.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and version control tools.
• Strong technical analysis skills and ability to develop solutions within system and performance constraints.

Nice To Haves

• Experience supporting government or federal IT systems.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Experience serving as a technical lead.
• Understanding of security and compliance standards within government environments.
• Relevant professional certifications, such as Java Developer, AWS, Google Cloud, or equivalent technical certifications.
• Experience designing and implementing automated unit, integration, and functional tests using JUnit, TestNG, Selenium, Playwright, Cucumber, Gherkin, or equivalent technologies.
• Mobile development and testing experience with platforms such as Appian, Flutter, iOS, or Android.
• Secret clearance or above and Level 4 Public Trust.

Responsibilities

• Develop and analyze system requirements to define scope, objectives, and technical specifications.
• Design, develop, test, and implement new software applications and enhancements to existing systems.
• Develop software components, modules, and services aligned with product specifications and project timelines.
• Participate in architectural design sessions and contribute to system and subsystem planning.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and develop effective solutions within operational constraints.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for code, processes, and procedures.
• Review change requests, ask questions to surface potential risks, and recommend mitigation actions.
• Collaborate with technical staff, business analysts, and project managers to clarify requirements and ensure successful delivery.
• Enhance existing CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and version control practices.
• Establish, revise, and enhance coding standards and ensure adherence to security best practices and compliance requirements.
• Provide technical mentorship and hands-on support to junior and mid-level developers through troubleshooting, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and pair programming as needed.
