Softline Merchandising Specialist
About The Position
This position is responsible for sorting through soft line donations, separating sellable items from outlet products, and ensuring these items are appropriately hung on hangers and by department and category. The specialist will price basic and name-brand clothing items according to guidelines, process soft line donations from the backroom to ensure merchandise is ready for the sales floor, and perform assigned duties within the framework of Goodwill Houston’s (GWH) Mission and policies. The goal is to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and stewardship of GWH donations to maximize profitability and enhance the Mission.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Retail sales experience is preferred.
- Ability to communicate and interact well with a variety of personality types.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Demonstrate professionalism and present a friendly, cooperative attitude.
- Ability to multi-task, make quick decisions, adapt to change, and work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Adheres to all GWH Policies & Procedures, Loss Prevention & Safety Regulations, and GWH Guiding Principles.
- Must be punctual, have dependable attendance, and maintain an appropriate appearance.
- Must safely conduct work; maintain good housekeeping standards, have all the aisles and pathways to fire exits clear and free from clutter, and keep work areas neat and clean.
- Adheres to local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Sorting soft goods (clothing, linens, etc.) according to GWH guidelines to maximize production.
- Pricing merchandise by using the current GWH baseline pricing guidelines.
- Keeping abreast of industry trends, merchandising, and competitive pricing.
- Carefully inspecting all items to ensure they meet GWH quality standards.
- Hanging all approved sorted goods on appropriate hangers.
- Ensuring that all hung goods are placed in size order by department.
- Working quickly to meet the required GWH production standards.
- Providing excellent customer service.
- Greeting each customer and assisting with basic questions about store operations and merchandise.
- Assisting with keeping production supplies available.
- Assisting with loading and unloading merchandise as needed.
- Receiving and recording donations as needed.
- Assisting with sorting donations according to GWH guidelines as assigned.
- Assisting with the security and safety of GWH associates and property.
- Assisting in floor recovery as needed.
- Performing necessary janitorial work.
- Performing other duties as assigned by Management.
