The SOF Targeting Analyst provides rotational, deployed, embedded, and reach-back support directly to Special Operations Forces (SOF). The analyst develops intelligence products and coordinates support packages that meet unit and subordinate-element operational requirements. The role also helps develop processes that improve SOF understanding of threat networks and support Department of Defense, interagency, and intelligence-community efforts to dismantle, disrupt, and defeat those networks. When deployed, the analyst embeds with SOF to support operational and tactical commanders, their staffs, and subordinate units by fusing operations and intelligence information. In reach-back work, the analyst supports deployed teammates, responds to requests from other SOF units, and collaborates with SOF units, institutions, and partners. The position also includes pre-deployment preparation, professional development, and mentoring new team members. Most deployments are 120 to 180 days; the role may require periodic CONUS travel and deployments to OCONUS locations.
