About The Position

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Social Worker at the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. The Social Worker provides professional social work services to individuals housed in the county jail, including assessment, case management, crisis intervention, resource coordination, and referrals to appropriate community services. The position works collaboratively with custody staff, behavioral health professionals, healthcare providers, and community partners to address individual needs and support successful transitions to the community. The ideal candidate is a compassionate and skilled Social Worker with strong assessment, case management, communication, and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a correctional environment, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary partners to support individuals with complex behavioral health and social service needs.

Requirements

  • Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units in Social Welfare, Sociology, Psychology or other Social/Human Services
  • One (1) year experience as an Eligibility Worker II; OR three (3) years experience as a Vocational Assistant; OR eighteen (18) months casework experience in a public or private Social Services Agency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher
  • Knowledge of socio-economic conditions and trends
  • Knowledge of basic principles of individual and group behavior
  • Knowledge of current issues in the field of Social Welfare
  • Knowledge of principles of interviewing and problem solving methodology
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local welfare programs
  • Knowledge of general record keeping techniques
  • Knowledge of basic community resources
  • Ability to speak and write effectively
  • Ability to organize and maintain case records and related documents
  • Ability to relate well to clients, agency staff and others
  • Ability to accept and utilize training and supervision

Responsibilities

  • Learns and applies the basic principles and techniques of social work
  • Interviews clients or applicants in a variety of settings to assess their need for services
  • Interprets rules, regulations, and policy to applicants, clients and the community
  • Responds to requests and makes referrals to utilize appropriate community and other resources
  • Coordinates service plans with supervisor and appropriate resources
  • Gathers, maintains and disseminates current information and community resources to Clients, applicants and departmental staff
  • Prepares case records, documents and reports in a timely manner
  • Participates in staff development programs
  • Consults with supervisor on an on-going basis
