About The Position

Provides services to students in-class or virtual programs who require intensive counseling/social work services, as identified by the school team and their families. The role involves providing intensive therapeutic and family intervention services to the identified school population, working with school personnel to reduce barriers to learning, and offering resources to assist students as needed in both traditional and virtual environments. Virtual experience may be required, and bilingual/biliterate skills in a targeted language may be necessary depending on the assignment.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year experience providing social work services in a clinical or school setting dealing with children/adolescents and their families.
  • One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to write, implement, and document student intervention plans.
  • Ability to adhere to school, department, and district policies, rules, practices, and professional ethics.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
  • Ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience.
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
  • Based on assignment, Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C) issued by Board of Social Work Examiners required; or
  • Based on assignment, Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) issued by Board of Social Work Examiners required; or
  • Based on assignment, required.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year school-based experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred.).
  • Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment.
  • If assigned to bilingual program, bilingual and biliterate in targeted language required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts in-person or virtual individual therapy and/or group counseling on a regular basis, providing necessary counseling and related services to students with disabilities according to their Individualized Education Programs.
  • Interviews students and family members to determine the nature and degree of needs.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with community agencies to assist students when needed.
  • Interprets psychiatric and other treatments and assessments to family and individual students.
  • Plans and conducts professional development trainings and individual consultations, in person or virtually, for teachers on classroom management, curriculum planning, instructional techniques, handling behavior, special education issues, child abuse, sexual harassment, and crisis prevention/intervention.
  • Participates in crisis intervention services, including prevention, intervention, and post-vention activities, and conducts threat determinations as needed.
  • Consults with school staff to enhance student's school performance.
  • Attends and participates in school-based team conferences, Section 504 multidisciplinary meetings, and IEP team meetings within required timelines.
  • Serves as a witness in special education mediations and hearings as requested.
  • Provides support and services to families experiencing personal and environmental variables that interfere with student progress.
  • May conduct home visits, if appropriate.
  • Completes required documentation within timelines, including case notes, IEP documentation, and Medicaid billing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
