About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics has an exciting opportunity for a full time Social Worker to work in Miami, FL. The Social Worker provides psychosocial assessments, intervention, and/or treatment and discharge planning to patients and families to assist them in coping with their hospitalization, illness, diagnosis, and/or life situation and meet the continuing needs of patients post hospitalization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services field, Psychology, Social Work or Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required.

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

  • Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's preferred.
  • At least two years of post-bachelor experience working with children and families preferred, one year of which must be working with abused and neglected children.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews clients and their families and coordinates programs and activities to meet their social and emotional needs.
  • Provides crisis intervention and assists families in understanding the implications and complexities of the medical situation and its impact on lifestyle.
  • Provides psychosocial assessments of patients and families to identify emotional, social, and environmental problems.
  • Formulates and implements plans utilizing appropriate social work interventions.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team and involves the patients and families in the development and implementation of plans.
  • Assists with the screening, identification, and management of victims of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and rape.
  • Makes referrals and serves as a resource for the healthcare team and serves as a patient advocate.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of relevant medical and legal issues and preserves records and statistics.
  • Attends and participates in staff, committee, department, and other administrative meetings.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Crisis intervention, forensic and specialized interviewing, report writing, case management, coordination of medical services, public speaking, training, and utilization and coordination of community resources.
  • Serves both the Department of Children and Families/law enforcement cases as well as non-custodial cases (VOCA).
  • Interview alleged child maltreatment victims and family members to obtain medical and psychosocial information as well as provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Available for 24-hour on-call rotation for consultation and/or to provide crisis intervention for suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Provide Specialized/Forensic interviews and psychosocial evaluations to eligible children and families and send reports within the time frames consistent with program requirements and best practice.
  • Receive and process referrals and consultations from outside sources according to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assistance with Victim Compensation to clients.
  • Review abuse reports received and triage to provide necessary and timely services.
  • Complete the required data collection forms and submit accurately and on time.
  • Arrange for and conduct team staffings and participate in the development of the recommendations.
  • Participate in case review and peer review.
  • Provide depositions and court testimony.
  • Maintain client records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Remain current on child maltreatment literature and participate in 8 hours of child maltreatment training annually as required.
