About The Position

Under the direction of a Program Manager and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker provides a range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a primarily child and youth mental health and addiction population. This is a position that treats youth affected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The incumbent provides supervision to students in formal clinical practicums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
  • Minimum 1 year postgraduate recognized clinical experience in a community mental health setting.
  • 1 year recent experience in a community MH setting working with children, youth & families.
  • Knowledge of normal child & adolescent development & psychopathology
  • Ability to formulate evidence-based intervention based on clinical presentation
  • Ability to identify, implement & evaluate areas of client difficulty
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions
  • Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
  • Knowledge of assessment, triage, treatment and case management
  • Broad knowledge of mental health community resources
  • Ability to design, initiate and conduct training for other professionals
  • Ability to provide public education regarding children/youth mental health issues
  • Can function independently & as member of interdisciplinary mental health team
  • Ability to manage a high demand caseload and other work assignments
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to document in a concise and timely manner
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
  • Must have current practicing registration with SASW.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • May require access to a vehicle for work.
