About The Position
Freire Schools is a network of four charter schools in Philadelphia and Delaware dedicated to preparing students from historically underserved communities for success in college and beyond. The Social Worker position is for Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade), a high school focused on ensuring students graduate not only from high school but also from college. The role involves supporting students in their academic, college and career exploration, and social-emotional development, connecting them with the necessary resources to achieve their post-high school goals.
Requirements
- School Counseling or School Social Work Certification (DE)
- Positive attitude, sense of humor, and a whatever-it-takes mindset when it comes to supporting students
- Demonstrated success working with and building trust among urban youth and their families
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities
- Monitor student academic performance, behavior, attendance, and social-emotional well-being, connecting students to appropriate supports as needed
- Serve as liaison between students, parents, and teachers on academic, behavioral, and social-emotional matters
- Provide brief individual or small-group counseling and support during crisis situations
- Guide students through the college process, including applications, financial aid, and College Board requirements
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and community resources as needed
- Attend key grade-level and student support meetings
