About The Position

Under the direction of a Program Manager and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker provides a range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a primarily child and youth mental health and addiction population. This is a position that treats youth affected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The incumbent provides supervision to students in formal clinical practicums.

Requirements

• 1 yr recent exp. in a community MH setting working w/ children, youth & families
• Min 1 yr postgrad recognized clinical exp in community mental health setting
• Highly developed written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions
• Knowledge of assessment, triage, treatment and case management.
• Can function independently & as member of interdisciplinary mental health team
• Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
• Broad knowledge of mental health community resources.
• Knowledge of normal child & adolescent development & psychopathology
• Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
• Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
• Requires a valid driver’s license.
• May require access to a vehicle for work.
• Must have current practicing registration with SASW.
• Ability to work shifts based on operational needs.
• Must upload all relevant documents (ex: certificates, diplomas, proof of enrollment, licenses and/or memberships) relating to the qualifications of the position.
• Must bring a valid Criminal Record Check (CRC) to the interview; it must be dated within six (6) months and include a vulnerable sector search.

Responsibilities

• Provides a range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a primarily child and youth mental health and addiction population.
• Treats youth affected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
• Provides supervision to students in formal clinical practicums.
• Design, initiate and conduct training for other professionals.
• Formulate evidence-based intervention based on clinical presentation.
• Provide public education regarding children/youth mental health issues.
• Manage a high demand caseload and other work assignments.
• Identify, implement & evaluate areas of client difficulty.
• Document in a concise and timely manner.
