The Medical Social Worker-In Training position is designed to bridge the gap between successful completion of an appropriate master’s degree program and the provision of a temporary or permanent state license for a Medical Social Worker. It may also be used to bridge the gap between an out-of-state licensed social worker who is waiting Wisconsin licensure. This position is designed as a short-term position (not to exceed nine months-initial length of temporary license). Candidate in this position will transition into a posted and approved Medical Social Worker position as soon as state licensure granted. The Medical Social Worker-In Training role serves as an extension of the Medical Social Worker in providing a level of psychosocial services to diverse patient populations and an interdisciplinary approach to patient care to promote appropriate utilization of health care resources, provision of high-quality care, optimal clinical outcomes and patient and provider satisfaction. The Medical Social Worker-In Training assists with the identification of patients with complex or special discharge needs and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the development, use, and maintenance of a care plan.
