About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise a unit of Adult Services Social Workers responsible for Adult Protective Services Intake and the monitoring and regulatory oversight of all state-licensed Adult Care Homes, including adult care homes, family care homes, and assisted living facilities, within the county. Responsibilities include providing day-to-day supervision, training, and performance management for staff; overseeing unit operations; establishing short- and long-range program goals; evaluating program effectiveness; and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures. Employees in this position have regular contact with Adult Services staff, medical providers, long-term care facilities, law enforcement, state regulatory agencies, and other community partners to ensure reports of alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation of vulnerable adults are assessed thoroughly, timely, and in accordance with North Carolina statutes, policies, and agency procedures. To be effective in this position you must have a thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems. This position is subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience; or a master's degree in a counseling field and three years of social work or counseling experience; or a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and four years of social work or counseling; or graduation from a four-year college or university and five years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint Experience).
  • Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license is required for this position and maintaining a driving record in accordance with Alamance County policy.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Adult Services Social Workers responsible for Adult Protective Services Intake and Adult Care Home oversight, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and screens Adult Protective Services reports, assigns cases, and monitors caseloads to ensure timely and appropriate service delivery.
  • Provides ongoing supervision, coaching, consultation, and performance management to staff through regular case reviews, supervisory conferences, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversees unit operations by monitoring program performance, maintaining quality standards, and implementing best practices to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Develops unit goals, analyzes program needs, and makes recommendations regarding staffing, budget, policies, and program improvements.
  • Coordinates staff training, orientation, and professional development to ensure employees maintain current knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborates with agency leadership, legal staff, community partners, medical providers, law enforcement, and regulatory agencies to support program operations and client outcomes.
  • Provides leadership and guidance in complex or high-risk cases, ensuring appropriate decision-making, worker safety, and compliance with legal and professional standards.
