The School Social Worker interviews and resolves student issues interfering with academic functioning.
Requirements
Experience working with youth and families
Minimum of a master’s degree in a field that permits state licensing/registration to provide outpatient counseling/therapy.
Limited or Full Licensure
Maintain ability to utilize multiple documentation systems based on location requirements.
Express oneself in an articulate and effective manner both verbally and in written communication.
Deal with abstract as well as concrete problematic people and situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Use time effectively by appropriately planning, organizing and scheduling required work hours to meet agency needs.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending agency in-service programs, educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks.
Posses a high level of understanding of normal and abnormal behaviors throughout developmental stages in order to best intervene in problematic situations.
Understand and apply basic theoretical models and perspectives to successfully resolve student scenarios over short and long term periods.
Act in accordance with the wishes of school administration as to daily tasks and duties.
Demonstrate effective judgment by making appropriate decisions, as well as conducting and maintaining a professional manner and appearance at all times.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Responsibilities
Maintains standard of the profession by following the principles of professional ethics and all applicable codes of ethics.
Supports agency operations by appropriately representing the agency in all forums and by demonstrating commitment to agency philosophy, mission, goals, policies and procedures.
Adheres to standards and requirements of all external accrediting/licensing bodies by attending staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned.
Shares professional knowledge with other staff by seeking out professional development opportunities and sharing new learning with staff.
Promotes the agency by ensuring an understanding of program services available for clients, publicizing activities and accomplishments and outreach with community members as appropriate.
Assesses student’s problem by obtaining, collecting and evaluating information from appropriate school personnel, and meetings with the student, and/or family members.
Treats students effectively by engaging them in the establishment of goals and objectives in accordance with school policy and the needs of school professionals.
Maintains necessary documentation as required, by preparing and completing, in a timely manner, all required records and reports for all assigned activities.
May work longer hours during school year as needed by school administration, to be used as desired work hours during school breaks as planned with supervisor’s guidance.
Adhere to agency and client protection policies by regularly acclimating yourself with the JFS privacy, safety and security policies made available within the employee handbook.
Participate annually in agency and partner related philanthropic activities and campaigns.
