About The Position

The Forsyth County Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a full-time Social Worker. The Social Worker - Post Adoption Specialist will provide post adoption support services to children and families who have finalized the adoption process. This individual must be able to assess the requests and needs of the families to provide adequate information and referrals to ensure permanence of the adoptive placement. This position will also support direct access for families as well as State Consultants, partnering agencies, etc. when dealing with Post Adoptions Financial Matters. The primary hours of work are from 8:00am until 5:00pm but flexibility in scheduling is needed to meet the needs of the families served and the mandated time frames. The primary purpose of this position is to address financial matters and support related to Post Adoption services. This position requires independent decision making, professional judgment, intercommunity collaboration, and knowledge of local resources. The person in this role must be able to effectively communicate with a variety of people from various socioeconomic backgrounds and a variety of mental capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work
  • Master's degree in Counseling
  • Four-year degree in a Human Service field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to Social Work or Counseling and six months of Social Work or Counseling experience
  • Four-year degree and one year of experience in Counseling or in a related Human Service field which provides experience in techniques of counseling, casework, group work, or community organization.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Considerable knowledge of the program/area(s) of assignment.
  • General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant.
  • Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate with clients/applicants, the public at large, and public officials to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking candidates are a plus.
  • A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide post adoption support services to children and families who have finalized the adoption process.
  • Assess the requests and needs of families to provide adequate information and referrals to ensure permanence of the adoptive placement.
  • Support direct access for families, State Consultants, and partnering agencies when dealing with Post Adoptions Financial Matters.
  • Complete Adoption Subsidy tasks to include, but not limited to, processing non-recurring fees, replacement check requests, State adjustment requests, verification letters, and vendor requests.
  • Responsible for maintenance and auditing needs of the Adoption subsidy records.
  • Aid Sr. Social Workers in some tasks and duties as needed.
  • Other duties as directed.
