About The Position

Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is a comprehensive department with over 450 licensed social workers across more than 65 program/service areas. Founded in 1907, it is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation. The department believes that total patient care must emphasize the physical, emotional, and social needs of each patient and their care partners. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level, including direct care and prevention. Employment in this department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure and access to continuing education and professional development opportunities. In this full-time, multi-source-funded position, the social worker will provide comprehensive and continuous social work services to children with sickle cell disease and other hematology diagnoses such as hemolytic anemias, thrombocytopenias, beta thalassemias, hemangiomas, and deep vein thrombosis. Patients are followed in ambulatory care settings, inpatient units (including the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), and the transfusion room during procedures.
