About The Position

The Social Worker (Masters) is an integral member of the interprofessional health care team providing collaborative, holistic care with individuals, families, and/or communities. Social Workers are primarily concerned with the relationships between people and their environments which are essential to psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The social and structural determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and are the focus for the dynamic and interactive process of engagement and care planning. Social work practice is grounded in the belief that all people have strengths and potential in areas of social emotional literacy, autonomy, and sense of purpose. Human Rights and social justice are the philosophical underpinnings of social work practice. The Social Worker (Masters) practices at an advanced level and draws on a Biopsychosocial Social Justice approach to constructive solutions, effective support, and informed advocacy. Healthcare social workers practice according to the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and the policies and procedures of IWK Health.

Requirements

  • Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.
  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited university.
  • Two (2) years related post-master’s clinical experience.
  • Resume includes all relevant education, experience, training, and certifications in relevant therapeutic modalities.
