About The Position

Social Work Services at The Mount Sinai Hospital is a large department with over 450 licensed social workers across more than 65 program/service areas. We are committed to total patient care, emphasizing physical, emotional, and social needs. Our department offers a pathway to LCSW licensure and provides access to continuing education and professional development. The Social Worker - Living Donor Program is an integral part of the Zweig Family Center for Living Donation, a specialized team focused on providing high-quality, patient-centered care for living kidney and liver donors. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to offer comprehensive psychosocial evaluation, psychoeducation, and long-term wellness support, ensuring a supportive experience for the donor throughout their journey.

Requirements

  • NYS LMSW or LCSW.
  • Excellent clinical and assessment skills.
  • Strong interdisciplinary/collaborative skills.
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills.
  • Program development and implementation skills.
  • Ability to assess needs and coordinate resources within hospital and community networks for effective management of patient care.
  • Minimum one year in current position, unless currently in Transplant/Oncology.

Nice To Haves

  • Research experience preferred.
  • LCSW preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for individuals considering living kidney or liver donation as a member of the Independent Donor Advocacy Team (IDAT).
  • Provide education regarding the psychosocial risks and benefits of donation and evaluate potential factors impacting long-term outcomes.
  • Serve as a dedicated independent advocate, offering support and guidance throughout the decision-making process.
  • Assess donor motivation and autonomy to ensure informed decisions free from coercion.
  • Provide bedside advocacy, emotional support, and discharge planning during the inpatient and initial recovery phases.
  • Emphasize coping strategies, health maintenance, and wellness promotion in the post-recovery phase in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to program development and maintenance, psychosocial outcomes research, quality improvement initiatives, and weekly candidate selection committee meetings as a key member of the Recanati/Miller Transplant Institute.
  • Utilize knowledge of crisis, family, and systems theories in an interdisciplinary setting.
