About The Position

This is a temporary position for a Social Worker I/II (CSWA or LCSW) at Unity Center for Behavioral Health. The role involves providing holistic patient-centered care and advocating for vulnerable populations. Clinical Social Workers evaluate psychosocial and mental health issues, manage transitions, handle crises, and coordinate services. They also assess interventions for behavioral and addiction issues, and support end-of-life care decisions. They act as advocates for patients, their surrogates, families, caregivers, and healthcare providers. Unity Center for Behavioral Health is a 24-hour behavioral and mental health services center in the greater Portland metropolitan area, offering psychiatric care, stabilization, and recovery for adults and adolescents. It houses the only emergency department specifically for behavioral health emergencies in Oregon, serving adults 18 and older. The center utilizes a trauma-informed approach to assessment and treatment.

Requirements

Master of Social Work degree from an accredited School of Social Work required.
Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA, working toward LCSW) required in OR. Licensed Social Worker (LSWAIC, working toward LICSW) required in WA. Must be able to obtain CSWA within 45 days of hire. May do non-clinical work until CSWA is obtained. (For Clinical Social Worker I)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Oregon or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in WA required. (For Clinical Social Worker II)
Broad knowledge of the principles of social work and the ability to apply them with individuals, families and/or groups integrating knowledge of normal development and the aging process, changes related to illness, and the needs of patients with acute, chronic, and terminal illness in assessment and intervention with attention to cultural and literacy implications.
Knowledge of medical, mental health and substance use diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries; common medications and their effects/side effects; and medical terminology.
Strong organizational, communication and collaboration skills, including an ability to effectively triage patient and family needs, function as member of an interdisciplinary team, identification and collaboration with community stakeholders or resources and written documentation.
Knowledge about social determinants of health, principles of diversity/equity/inclusion and culturally responsive practice with populations who have experience historical marginalization.
Demonstrates ability to locate, utilize and advocate for patient/family access to hospital/ community resources.
Exhibits knowledge of legal/regulatory issues and an ability to be a resource to all team members regarding such issues.
Ability to navigate electronic medical records and effectively utilize basic computer programs.
Knowledge of legal, regulatory and compliance requirements and an ability to be a resource to all team members regarding such issues and knowledge of current health care environment.

Nice To Haves

1 year of relevant experience in care management, mental health and/or addictions services, medical social work, or social service organization. (Preferred for Clinical Social Worker I)
2 years relevant experience in care management, mental health and/or addictions services, medical social work, or social service organization. (For Clinical Social Worker II)
3 years' relevant experience. (Preferred for Clinical Social Worker II)

Responsibilities

Provides social work services in a variety of adult and pediatric settings across the health care continuum with a focus on holistic patient-centered care and attention to the needs of vulnerable populations.
Works both independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Provides comprehensive evaluation of psychosocial and mental/behavioral health status, legal and safety considerations, substance use or addiction, chronic illness, or end of life issues with the use of brief counseling, transition planning, crisis management and planning and coordination with internal and community stakeholders.
Social work intervention may be with individuals, family members or groups.
Utilizes a strengths-based approach with the aim to enhance the capacity of people to address their own needs.
