About The Position

This position provides counseling and case management for clients of the Elder Abuse Prevention Program and their families. It also involves presenting educational and training seminars on elder mistreatment and related subjects to professionals and other groups within the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or equivalent degree required.
  • Two years in social work.
  • Must be able to meet with clients in their homes.
  • Travel within the Finger Lakes region required.
  • A portion of the work is performed at a desk or at a personal computer station.
  • Verbal, written and telephone communication skills are required.
  • Group training and public speaking skills required.
  • Strong written and computer skills needed.
  • Ability to maintain composure under strict deadlines and difficult situations.
  • Ability to work in multicultural situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in social work or equivalent degree preferred.
  • Experience in aging services preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in gerontological social work or aging services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides information and referral services.
  • Provides comprehensive assessments of the medical/social needs of older adults and their caregivers/family in their home environment.
  • Conducts investigations of elder abuse allegations in collaboration with community partners such as Adult Protective Services and law enforcement.
  • Develops comprehensive service plans.
  • Presents cases to the elder abuse Enhanced Multidisciplinary Team as needed.
  • Provides support for special projects of the Elder Abuse Prevention Program.
  • Maintains professional standards, including accurate record keeping.
  • Prepares and submits reports as required in a timely manner.
  • Conducts community presentations and professional training on topics relating to the identification of elder mistreatment and related topics.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills by attending ongoing conferences, trainings, and seminars with the approval of the Division Leader and within the financial resources of the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
