About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to join their outpatient multidisciplinary Stroke Team. This role involves providing comprehensive psychosocial support through counseling, case management, patient and caregiver education, advocacy, and resource coordination. The Social Worker will collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic, patient-centered care and support patients and families navigating stroke treatment, recovery, and adjustment. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical judgment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, relevant experience in medical, rehabilitation, or neurological settings, and a commitment to enhancing the patient and caregiver experience. Responsibilities include conducting diagnostic assessments, determining clinical interventions, facilitating crisis intervention and short-term psychotherapy, and providing education. The position requires effective verbal and written communication, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems, and participation in treatment/transition plan development. The role functions as an interdisciplinary team member and includes specified billable patient contact hours. The position operates within the research, practice, and education frameworks at Mayo Clinic and requires compliance with medical/legal responsibilities, serving as a resource to other staff. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship except for the TN visa classification and does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work.
  • Two years supervised therapy experience in behavioral health and/or medical social work including diagnostic assessment, individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
  • Current independent clinical licensure in the state of Florida (LCSW).
  • Demonstrated training and competence in one or more structured psychotherapies.
  • Current suicide-risk assessment and safety-planning competency.

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience with population to be served.
  • Experience in brain injury, rehabilitation, neurology/neuropsychiatry, or behavioral health settings.
  • Formal training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
  • Training in problem-solving therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based approaches, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
  • Experience with co-occurring PTSD, mood, and substance use disorders, and with military/veteran populations.
  • Specialty certification/training as preferred by the work area.
