About The Position

Requirements

  • Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers as a Clinical Specialist (formerly called "Private Practitioner").
  • Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists as a Registered Counselling Therapist.
  • Minimum Master’s Degree in a counselling-related field such as Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in case conceptualization and treatment of a range of mental health symptoms with a variety of adult clients.
  • Have clinical knowledge in the areas of grief/loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, and adjustment issues.
  • Knowledge of psychological management of chronic pain and concussive syndrome an asset.
  • Training and experience with cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, and Trauma Processing modalities (ideally CPT Provider (Cognitive Processing Therapy), but all CBT related modalities are of interest, such as CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, PE).
  • Experience working as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience preparing assessment, progress and discharge reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, solid judgement, and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clients, primarily military veterans, with goal-focused psychotherapy to address mental health and psychosocial problems that are barriers to better health and family/community engagement.
  • Provide veteran clients with social work assessments and social work interventions in the client’s social milieu in order to improve social and community functioning.
  • Utilize a primarily cognitive-behavioral approach to intervention based on an overall client-centered philosophy.
  • Provide group psychoeducational services.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences to discuss clients’ treatment plan and goals, progress, and any barriers to functional goals.
  • Deliver quality reporting and effective communication with all stakeholders.
