About The Position

The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking a motivated and compassionate professional to serve as a Social Worker 5-B – Mental Health, an important position dedicated to supporting the mental health needs of individuals housed within the facility. This role plays a critical part in promoting stability, rehabilitation, and overall well-being within the correctional environment. As Louisiana’s largest correctional institution, Louisiana State Penitentiary depends on skilled professionals who are committed to providing quality services while working in a challenging and secure environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support both institutional safety and the mental health needs of the inmate population. In this role, the incumbent will perform advanced professional social work duties involving the assessment, evaluation, and treatment of inmates with mental health needs. Responsibilities include providing case management, conducting mental health assessments, developing treatment plans, and coordinating services with medical, security, and administrative staff to ensure appropriate care and compliance with departmental policies and standards. The Social Worker 5-B will also contribute to maintaining a safe, structured, and rehabilitative environment within the institution.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • A master's degree in social work
  • Four years of social services experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates the various professional disciplines of the mental health department through administrative guidance.
  • Determines program requirements of personnel, equipment, and materials, and supervises preparation of budget requests and expenditure of funds.
  • Provides clinical supervision to subordinate social workers and graduate interns, as well as case consultation to all departmental clinical staff.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains medical, rehabilitative and social service programs at LSP.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness for quality of services provided.
