About The Position

As a Social Worker 2 with the Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services (BBVS), you will help individuals who are blind or visually impaired, build confidence and stability in their daily lives. This position gives you the opportunity to connect families with important services and resources, making a strong difference in the well-being of children, youth, and adults. Join our Harrisburg District Office to make an impact throughout the community! This position focuses on helping individuals access services that support independence and safety at home and in the community.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment)
  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare
  • Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare
  • A master's degree in social work or social welfare
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Build connections with agencies and organizations to identify individuals who may benefit from services
  • Develop and update plans based on customer goals, available resources, and needed supports
  • Gather detailed information through interviews to understand needs and begin the rehabilitation process
  • Arrange and monitor services such as counseling, advocacy, and vision related supports
  • Enter and update case notes, service information, and documents in the online system
  • Meet with customers, providers, and groups to support awareness and cooperation
