About The Position

Join the Torrance State Hospital team as a Social Worker 1 and make a real difference in the lives of patients who need consistent, high-quality care and support. This role is currently assigned to work in our civil program supporting individuals who are generally admitted to TSH based on referrals from community in-patient psychiatric hospitalization. You will work directly with patients, families, community groups, and external agencies to provide the full range of social work services for an assigned caseload of adults in our care. Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in social work or social welfare.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within two months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with individuals and their families, legal guardians, and external agency representatives to gather and update information
  • Identify and determine each individual’s strengths and weaknesses as well as their need and eligibility for social work services
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans and individual goal planning
  • Document progress, confer with other care providers and agencies, and respond to a variety of correspondence on patient care and related circumstances
  • Advise families and guardians of treatment progress and encourage their involvement
  • Complete mental health petitions for involuntary commitment, assist patients in legal matters, and testify at hearings
